Setup Rcpp in OSX

It takes some effort to get Rcpp working in OSX (in Linux it's easy to set up). The whole procedure is recorded here. This is done on a macbook pro with osx 10.9.

  • cd; mkdir .R # create .R if it does not exist
  • Create a file named Makevars with the following content:
    CC=clang
    CXX=clang++

  • Check if you can install devtools as a test:
    # R code
    install.packages("devtools")
    require(devtools)
    has_devel() # should return TRUE!
